Central American food is hearty and delicious. Rice and beans (gallo pinto or arroz con frijoles) are at every meal. Tortillas are handmade in Guatemala. Pupusas are the national dish of El Salvador. Wherever you are, these ordering phrases will get you fed.

Ordering: Quiero, Quisiera, and Me gustaría
'Quiero' (I want) is the most common and perfectly polite way to order. 'Quisiera' (I would like) is slightly more formal. 'Me gustaría' (I would like) is the most polite. All three work fine — don't overthink it.
Plurals: -s and -es
Add -s to nouns ending in a vowel. Add -es to nouns ending in a consonant. Articles also change: el → los, la → las, un → unos, una → unas.
